SPECIAL REPORT: Donald Trump has something huge to announce. He has a serious candidate for the most important position in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Are you anxious to know who is going to take the place of the compromised and fired James Come? Read more below:
Moments ago, President Donald Trump nominated a new FBI Director after firing James Comey last month.
The Daily Caller reported that Trump nominated Christopher Wray to be the new head of the FBI. He made this announcement in a Twitter post on Wednesday morning.
“I will be nominating Christopher A. Wray, a man of impeccable credentials, to be the new Director of the FBI. Details to follow,” Trump wrote.
Wray previously served as an assistant attorney general who oversaw the criminal division under President George W. Bush from 2003 to 2005. He later became New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s personal lawyer during the “Bridgegate” scandal.
Trump has spent the last few weeks searching for a successor for Comey, whom he fired in a letter back in May.
“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur in the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau,” Trump said in his letter to Comey. “It is essential that we find new leadership for the F.B.I. that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission. You are hereby terminated and removed from office, effective immediately.”
Trump has looked at many candidates for the FBI Director position, including FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman, former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating, former FBI official Richard McFeely and John Pistole.
